CANMORE, Alberta, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The owner of a Canadian dog-sledding company says she is considering a name change because a company with the same name allegedly killed dogs.
Dana Bittner told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. her company, Howling Dogs Tours in Canmore, Alberta, formerly partnered with Howling Dogs Tours of Whistler, British Columbia. But she said the two outfits have had no relationship for seven years.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is investigating allegations an employee of the British Columbia company shot 100 dogs last April. The animals had become superfluous after a surge in business during the Winter Olympics.
Bittner said she has been deluged with nasty e-mails and telephone calls, much of it obscene and some including death threats. She said her company may have to sacrifice its name.
"It's not something that we're going to consider quickly," Bittner said. "Because we have 20 years of having Howling Dog Kennels and Howling Dog Tours, and to just immediately change your identity would be extremely difficult."
