Matt Raymond, the library's director of communications, said the hawk is believed to have flown in through a window Jan. 19 and spent a week evading capture in the Thomas Jefferson Building's Main Reading Room, The Washington Post reported.

The hawk, which fed on frozen quail from a trap without being snared, was caught using starlings as bait by a Raptor Conservancy of Virginia team at about 8:30 a.m. EST Wednesday. The team spent about 25 minutes capturing the bird of prey.

Conservancy Vice President Linda Moore said the "emaciated" hawk was taken to the group's facility and will be released back into the wild once it returns to health.

Labs top 2010 list of most popular dogs

NEW YORK, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The New York-based American Kennel Club said its registration statistics indicate Labrador retrievers remained the nation's top dogs for another year.

The organization said its 2010 registration statistics found Labs were the most popular dogs, followed by German shepherds, Yorkshire terriers, beagles, golden retrievers, bulldogs, boxers, dachshunds, poodles and shih tzus.

The AKC said beagles and golden retrievers switched spots from the 2009 list, as did boxers and bulldogs.

The kennel club said three new breeds appeared on its registry in 2010 -- the 33rd-ranked Leonberger, the Cane Corso at spot 51 and the Icelandic sheepdog in 82nd.

California woman claims Guitar Hero record

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A California woman set a record with her score on the Guitar Hero III music video game, the 2011 Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition indicated.

Annie Leung, 25, of Irvine, a University of California, Berkeley, graduate, holds the female record for a single track on Guitar Hero III, the Orange County Register reported.

Leung achieved a score of 789,349 in September while playing "Through the Fire and Flames" by the band DragonForce on the "expert" level, the highest difficulty level, the Register said.

That means she played 500 consecutive notes without any error on one of the game's most difficult songs, the Register said, noting that most casual players don't get past the "Medium" difficulty in the game, much less to "hard" or "expert."

Guitar Hero series is one of a group of video games that simulate the playing of musical instruments.

"Who the heck is going to play a stupid game where you're going to play a plastic guitar," Leung's sister Winnie recalls telling Annie when she first brought the game home.

Fugitive caught urinating in public

ATLANTA, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Police in Georgia said an armed robber who escaped a Florida work release center in 1983 was arrested after an officer spotted him urinating in public.

Atlanta police said Edward Nathan Jr., 50, who was wanted by the Florida Department of Corrections following his 1983 escape from the Tampa work release center, was arrested Friday by an officer who spotted him urinating in public and gave his name as Claude Brooks, WJXT-TV, Jacksonville, Fla., reported.

The suspect was released on bond the following day, but officers ran his fingerprints through a national database and discovered his true identity. He was arrested again by Atlanta police and the U.S. Marshals Office. Florida corrections officials said he is expected back in the state shortly as he waived his extradition proceedings.
