IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A California woman set a record with her score on the Guitar Hero III music video game, the 2011 Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition indicated.

Annie Leung, 25, of Irvine, a University of California, Berkeley, graduate, holds the female record for a single track on Guitar Hero III, the Orange County Register reported Thursday.

Leung achieved a score of 789,349 in September while playing "Through the Fire and Flames" by the band DragonForce on the "expert" level, the highest difficulty level, the Register said.

That means she played 500 consecutive notes without any error on one of the game's most difficult songs, the Register said, noting that most casual players don't get past the "Medium" difficulty in the game, much less to "hard" or "expert."

Guitar Hero series is one of a group of video games that simulate the playing of musical instruments.

"Who the heck is going to play a stupid game where you're going to play a plastic guitar," Leung's sister Winnie recalls telling Annie when she first brought the game home.
