BARNSLEY, England, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Famed British cricket umpire Dickie Bird is asking officials in his hometown to prevent pranksters from hanging underwear from his statue.
Bird, 77, is asking Barnsley, England, officials to raise the plinth of the statue erected in his honor by a few feet to place it out of reach of underwear-wielding youngsters, The Mirror reported Monday.
The 6-foot-tall statue, erected in 2009, has frequently been adorned with bras and underpants hanging from its outstretched finger.
