GLASGOW, Scotland, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A Scottish theater said an actor's costume was changed after authorities informed officials the outfit violated the Geneva Convention.
The Pavilion Theater in Glasgow said actor Dean Park altered the costume for the pantomime production of "Robin Hood" after the British Red Cross informed theater officials the use of red crosses on the hat and tunic of the outfit violated the Geneva Conventions and could lead to legal action, The Scotsman reported Tuesday.
"It was a two-page letter from the head of international law for the Red Cross," said Iain Gordon, the Pavilion's general manager. "It contained a three-page document from an extract from the Geneva Convention and it also contained a booklet that said it was a criminal offense to do this (to use the red cross symbol unlawfully)."
A Red Cross spokesman said it is important to protect the emblem as it is "a special sign of neutrality and protection recognized by all sides during armed conflicts."
