Thief targets church donation boxes

GLENDALE, Calif., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Police in California said they are on the lookout for a thief who has repeatedly targeted the collection boxes at a Catholic church.

Glendale police said the thief has struck Holy Family Catholic Church several times during the past several months by using a screwdriver or pick to pry open the donation boxes, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Wednesday.

Investigators said the suspect, who witnesses have described as a Hispanic man in his mid-40s, is also believed to be stealing from other area churches.

Officials with the church said they are increasing security measures, including installing cameras in the building.
