Men shave heads to spite genetics

BOSTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Boston men making a fashion statement by shaving their balding heads said getting rid of the hair left behind by genetics is about taking control.

Craig Singer, 44, said while getting his hair buzzed at the Barbershop Lounge he chose his Vin Diesel-inspired look about a year ago because he didn't like the feeling of being called "bald," The Boston Globe reported Thursday.

He said the word now "has a different connotation, because it's by choice."

Sandy Poirier, the owner of Shag salon, said he started shaving his head five years ago "when no one else was doing it," and he learned there are new obligations that come with the style.

"You have to dress well, be more fashionable, or you're going to look like you don't care," Poirier said.

Poirier echoed Singer's distaste for the word "bald."

"There should be a moratorium on the word 'bald.' Everything else is politically correct, why not this?" he said.
