Homeless man's video seeks announcing job
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- An online video of a homeless Ohio man detailing his search for voice-over work has yielded dozens of media inquiries and potential job offers.
The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch said it received scores of calls about Ted Williams -- whose video was posted to the newspaper's Web site Monday and appeared Tuesday on YouTube -- after the clip received thousands of views in only a couple of days.
Williams said he went to school to develop his voice for radio announcing.
"And then alcohol and drugs and a few other things became a part of my life. I've got two years clean, and I'm trying hard to get it back. And hopefully somebody from one of these television or radio stations will say, 'Hey, I need a voice-over,'" he said in the video.
The Dispatch said the video has resulted in dozens of media inquiries, including calls from CNN, ABC and CBS, as well as many calls from potential employers who may be interested in giving Williams a job.
Shane Cormier, a Los Angeles talent agency owner, sent the newspaper an e-mail offering to represent Williams and claiming the agency "could make him a millionaire," the Dispatch said.

Accidental call leads SWAT team to school
WINNETKA, Ill., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Suburban Chicago police said a SWAT team descended on a middle school following an accidental phone call that led a woman to fear for her husband's safety.
Winnetka police said a man who works at Carleton Washburne School sat on his phone while driving home Monday evening and accidentally called the last number dialed, his wife's phone, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Winnetka police Chief Joseph De Lopez said the woman heard only garbled voices -- which Mark Friedman, interim co-superintendent of District 36, said were "gangster-like" song lyrics playing from the radio -- and feared her husband was being held hostage.
The woman called 911 and a SWAT team with more than 30 members arrived at the school at about 5 p.m. to search for a potential gunman.
De Lopez said the all-clear was sounded about three hours later, after the man was found to have arrived safely at home.
Officials at the middle school said all of the students had gone home for the day prior to the incident.
