WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The director of a play set to open in New Zealand said audience members will be ferried to an old convalescence chamber on an island to see the show.
Paul Stephanus, director of "Quarantine," said those attending the play, which is to debut during the Fringe Festival in Wellington next month, will be taken by ferry to a convalescence chamber on Matiu/Somes Island where they will be told they have contracted a contagious disease, The (Wellington) Dominion Post reported Tuesday.
Stephanus said the "theatrical adventure" will involve the audience learning about the archaic medical practices once used by the island's doctors. He said the play will be "demanding" for audiences.
"We're taking them to a huge island, we're cramming them into a small space. It will require commitment," he said.
