GUJRANWALA, Pakistan, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A Pakistani polygamist was publicly beaten by two of his wives who accused him of having a secret fourth wife and planning for marriage No. 5, witnesses said.

Mian Ishaq told police he was attending a Gujranwala wedding reception Monday with his third wife when two other spouses, Mehvish and Uzma, arrived with relatives and began overturning tables, The Daily Telegraph (Britain) reported Tuesday.

The women, who accused Ishaq of having a fourth wife in secret and planning to marry a fifth woman, beat their husband with their shoes, witnesses said.

Police arrived at the reception and escorted the women out.

Ishaq said his wives' accusations are "a blatant lie."

"I am willing to swear on my life that I only have three wives," he said.

Ishaq said the two women have filed for divorce.
