EAST WINDSOR, Fla., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A set of 7-year-old triplets from New Jersey was dubbed the top team in the first grade section of the National Scholastic K-12 Chess Championship in Florida.
Katerina Varsou of East Windsor said her fraternal triplets, Andreas, Nicholas and Constantine Oskiper, only started playing chess about a year before taking the top spot at the Dec. 10-12 tournament, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
The boys played as a team, adding together their scores at the end of the games.
"I've seen them more cheering for each other in the nationals than I have seen them do before," Varsou said.
The United States Chess Federation said it marked the first time a tournament had been won by a team of triplets.
