WEST WARWICK, R.I., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A Rhode Island man, tired of hanging Christmas lights, is letting a dummy finish the job.

Carlos Vargas of West Warwick stuffed clothes to make an effigy and hung it from his rain gutter at the point where the lights stop, making the figure look like it was falling off a ladder, The Providence Journal reported Tuesday.

It looks so realistic people stop their cars and come running to offer help, Vargas said. Some have left notes saying the apparent emergency could cause an accident.

Vargas said people have told him they reported him to the police, but so far no one has asked him to remove the display. The police and town hall officials say they had heard no complaints.

One motorist stopped, took pictures and asked Vargas how to copy the display on his own house.
