COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Television animal expert Jack Hanna says he is honored that the public selected him as the namesake of the Columbus (Ohio) Zoo's new python.

The zoo announced last week that its reticulated python would be christened "Hanna" after the name was suggested multiple times by visitors to the zoo Web site.

The Columbus Dispatch said the human Hanna, a former director of the zoo, told them he got a kick out of the contest. He noted the only other animals named after him were a rabbit and a jackass.

The reptilian Hanna is the offspring of Fluffy, a python that weighed 300 pounds and stretched 24 feet long at the time of her death in October.
