DOHA, Qatar, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- The Qatari parents of a girl named Fifa, after the world soccer governing organization, say the name is a tribute to their country hosting the 2022 World Cup.

The woman said she and her husband had originally planned to name their child Dana, but changed those plans in favor of a tribute to FIFA after their country became the first Arab, Muslim and Middle Eastern country chosen to host the World Cup tournament, the Gulf News reported Tuesday.

"We saw that Qataris were truly overjoyed with the historic award and we wanted to contribute to the celebrations in our own way," the mother said.
