Police: Bored ex-smoker faked 911 calls

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Tennessee said a man arrested for allegedly making three fake 911 reports told officers he made the calls because he hadn't smoked in two days.

Investigators said Alex Baker, 20, of Clarksville called 911 anonymously at 7:13 p.m. and said he had witnessed a murder and called again at 7:26 p.m. to say he had been pushed out a door, stabbed and abandoned in a wooded area, The (Clarksville) Leaf Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Police said Baker called a third time at 7:49 p.m. and told the call taker he was dying in the woods and his girlfriend had been murdered and buried in Woodlawn by Alex Baker.

Officers traced all three calls to Baker's phone and he told them he had lost his cellphone several days earlier. A search of the woods was carried out by canine and helicopter teams but no evidence was discovered to corroborate the 911 calls.

Police said Baker later admitted to making the calls and inventing the stories because nicotine withdrawal had made him bored and anxious.

Baker was charged with three counts of false report and jailed in lieu of $15,000 bond.
