DETROIT, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- The 2-9 Detroit Lions had insult added to injury in the form of a quip from "The Simpsons."

Sunday night's episode featured Moe the bartender explaining to Bart Simpson how it is possible to bet on anything that moves, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

"Even the Detroit Lions?" Bart asked skeptically.

"Hey, layoff Detroit. Them people is living in 'Mad Max' times," Moe replied, comparing Detroit to the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the series of films starring Mel Gibson.

The jibe came in the wake of the Lions' 45-24 loss to the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving.
