The numbers came up in the Wednesday evening drawing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. On Friday morning, about 600 people were lined up at a state lottery office in Chicago to collect their winnings. Advertisement Tracy Owens, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Lottery, said betting the same single-digit number is one of the most common practices among buyers of lottery tickets. She said the winners will be dividing a pie of $8.4 million, with those who bought 50-cent tickets getting about $2,500 with correspondingly higher payouts for higher wagers. Winners can claim their share for the next year, Owens said. Curley Harris, a bank teller, was dubious. "They are closed Saturday, and they might run out of money Monday," he said. "We want our money today. You better get it while you can get it."
