Oconee County sheriff's deputies said they responded to a home near Seneca Monday on a report of a burglary and discovered Noah Smith, 31, was naked and lying face down in the doorway of the address, WCSC-TV, Charleston, reported.

Investigators said Smith slapped a deputy, who responded by using his Taser to no effect. More deputies arrived and confronted Smith in the victim's bedroom, where he allegedly tried to attack the authorities until he was finally wrestled to the ground and placed in handcuffs and leg shackles.

The sheriff's office said Smith, who was suspected to be under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms, was taken to a nearby hospital, where an X-ray discovered a mouse in his rectum.

Smith, who told hospital staff he could not remember the events leading to his arrest, was charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery, and indecent exposure.

Turkeys terrorize New York neighborhood

NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Residents of a New York neighborhood said aggressive turkeys are terrorizing the area.

People living in the Ocean Breeze neighborhood said the fowl have been blocking traffic and filling their yards with droppings -- and even trapped resident Gina Guaragno in her car for a short time before she splashed them with window washing fluid -- the New York Daily News reported.

Residents said the turkey trouble began about 10 years ago after a woman released her nine pets, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation estimates there are now about 100 of the wild birds in the neighborhood.

City Councilman James Oddo said many area seniors have told him they are afraid to leave their homes. He said officials balked at a plan he forwarded two years ago to move the turkeys upstate.

"How are people supposed to have faith that their government can deal with problems like terrorism when we can't even deal with turkeys?" Oddo said.

Students protest T-shirt suspensions

FORKS, Wash., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Some of the students suspended from a Washington state high school for wearing Sex Pistols T-shirts protested outside the school during lunch hour.

The protesters said as many as 25 Forks High School students were suspended Tuesday but school administrators said it was closer to 10 or 12 -- an official count was unavailable Tuesday night -- after donning T-shirts bearing the punk rock band's name during the school day Tuesday, the Peninsula Daily News, Port Angeles, Wash., reported.

Students said the T-shirts were distributed Tuesday as a response to the suspending of senior Devin Chastain, who donned a Sex Pistols T-shirt after a friend was ordered to change.

"I'm suspended for three days for making a peaceful protest," Chastain said. "Sex Pistols is not a sexual innuendo. It is a homage to an important band."

"Because of the nature of what was on the shirts and the way in which they were distributed and how that was causing a disruption -- that is when the administration took action," Superintendent Diana Reaume said.

Nine of the suspended students, including Chastain, protested outside of the school during lunch hour Tuesday.

"Most of us parents are wondering if it is really that important, but if they want to fight for their rights, we are behind them," Chastain's mother, Staci, said of the row.

Naked man found masturbating in closet

CORVALLIS, Ore., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Police in Oregon said a couple awoke in the morning to find a naked man masturbating in their closet.

Investigators said the Corvallis couple told officers they woke up Monday morning to find several items out of place and they soon discovered the nude man masturbating in their closet, the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported.

The male resident told police he ordered the man to leave and the suspect fled after a brief struggle ended with a punch to the naked man's face.

Police said they found a man matching the description of the suspect, Nicholas Buekea, 21, who was wearing only shorts when located by police.

Officers said they encountered a group of people who said they gave a pair of shorts to a nude man who appeared to have been in a fight, the newspaper reported.

Buekea had been staying with the friend in the same apartment as the couple, police said. He was arrested and charges are pending review by the Benton County District Attorney's Office, police said.
