AUBURN, N.Y., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The New York State Insurance Department's Fraud Bureau said a man is facing charges of deliberately falling in a store so he could collect insurance money.

The bureau's investigators said Charles Barnes Sr., 48, was caught by a surveillance camera allegedly pouring soda on the ground before lying on the floor until customers and workers came to help him at the Express Mart in Auburn, WSYR-TV, Syracuse, N.Y., reported Wednesday.

The investigators said Barnes filed a claim with Express Mart's insurer in January, claiming a back injury, but later withdrew the claim.

Barnes could face up to four years in prison if convicted on charges of insurance fraud and falsifying business records.
