CHICAGO, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A Chicago auction house said nobody ponied up the minimum bid for former Cubs player Sammy Sosa's corked bat.
Ray Schulte of Schulte Auctions said the infamous bat, which was found to be corked during a 2003 game, was not sold to high bidder Grant DePorter, who bid $14,407, because the current owner, former Cubs pitcher Mike Remlinger, put a secret reserve price on the bat that was not met, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
"The next step is to offer (the bat) to the highest bidder or try to sell it privately," Schulte said. "Usually the owner takes a couple of days to think about it."
