HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Connecticut's secretary of state says voters can wear World Wrestling Entertainment gear to the polls even though the WWE's ex-chief executive is a candidate.

"If somebody walks in wearing a Hulk Hogan shirt, that's not a problem," Susan Bysiewicz told the Hartford Courant. "If someone is wearing a T-shirt that says vote for Dick Blumenthal or Linda McMahon, clearly those kind of items are prohibited."

In a letter to town clerks and registrars of votes, Bysiewicz said Tuesday there had been misleading media reports that WWE sweatshirts or hats would violate the law against electioneering within 75 feet of the polls. McMahon, the former CEO and wife of Vince McMahon, the current CEO, is the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate against Blumenthal.

Vince McMahon filed a lawsuit earlier this week saying a ban on WWE gear would violate his rights.

A Blumenthal spokeswoman said that on this issue he agrees with the McMahons.

The flap apparently began when a Bysiewicz spokesman said the issue was under discussion.
