11 ponies stampede through town

PALM COAST, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said 11 Shetland ponies escaped from a corral and stampeded through the city of Palm Coast.

Flagler County sheriff's deputies said they received a call at about 7 a.m. Wednesday about the ponies, which were being kept in a makeshift corral in advance of the Italian-American Club's fall festival, stampeding toward Fleetwood Drive, The (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union reported Thursday.

Deputies said they solicited help from the owner of the carnival and the ponies were recaptured within 20 minutes.

"It was quite the humorous morning to say the least," sheriff's Sgt. John Bray said.
