HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man was charged with arson after allegedly throwing pictures of his girlfriend into a bathroom waste basket and lighting them on fire.
The Hollywood Police Department said Jonathan Sanchez Jimenez, 23, sent a text message to his girlfriend Sept. 19 -- two days after police were called on a domestic violence report at the apartment the couple shared -- saying he was "going to die" and accompanied by a picture of a fire, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Thursday.
Investigators said the woman called police after returning home to find a wastebasket in her bathroom had been burned and the wall nearby singed. Jimenez told officers he used the wastebasket to burn photos of his girlfriend because he was upset.
Jimenez was charged with first-degree arson, as well as with aggravated assault from the Sept. 17 incident. His bond was set at $20,000.
