Police: Paint has no effect on stun guns

CHEYENNE, Wyo., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Police in Wyoming said a man who feared being hit by stun guns covered himself in latex paint as officers arrived.

Cheyenne police said two officers were called to the home of Brian Mattert, 34, just after midnight Sept. 16 on a domestic violence report and found him covering himself in white paint in a back room, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Monday.

"You see all this water-based paint?" a police report quotes Mattert as saying. "You shoot me with that and you'll kill me."

The report said the officers told Mattert the paint would have no effect on the stun guns but he remained defiant and uncooperative.

The officers said they followed Mattert into his back yard and he was stunned with one of the guns while attempting to flee.

"Tasers (stun guns) are clearly useful and effective tools for law enforcement to use to actually procure the arrest and maintain the safety of those being arrested," Cheyenne Police Sgt. Rob Dafoe said. "Thousands of law enforcement agencies utilize Tasers in their arsenal of police equipment."

Mattert was arrested and charged with domestic violence, assault and battery, interference with a peace officer and aggravated assault on a peace officer.
