CHICAGO, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Three young friends accused of taking an illegal swim in Chicago's Buckingham Fountain said they have no regrets about the experience.

Sana Rezai, 25, Millicent Kennedy, 20, and Giovanna Pizzoferrato, 19, said police approached them while they were preparing to exit the fountain Wednesday and they soon found themselves handcuffed and charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

"It's a lot more majestic being on it then it ever has been to be outside of it," said Kennedy. "I feel like we were all aware (getting arrested) could happen. We didn't think it would. If what we did was illegal, I don't think what we did was immoral. I don't have any regrets all."

Police and Chicago Park District officials said swimmers are occasionally caught inside the fountain.

"Obviously the Chicago Park District does not condone swimming in the fountain," spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner said. "Not only is it a danger to the individual, but at 83 years old the fountain is quite delicate."
