NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Bakers say they could set a record when they attempt to circle the New Orleans Superdome -- twice -- with the world's largest king cake.

The pastry kings from Haydel's will take three days to bake and six hours to assemble their giant confection in their try for a Guinness world record, WWL-TV, New Orleans, reported Wednesday.

Officials hope to raise $50,000 in a huge bake sale with funds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to cure breast cancer.

Judges will measure the cake by weight instead of length, and this year's entrants hope their king cake will weigh in at about 8,000 pounds.

The previous record for the largest king cake was a Houston entry coming in at 3,000 pounds, WWL-TV said.
