School requires contracts for dances

INDEPENDENCE, Mo., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A Missouri high school principal says students wishing to attend this year's dances must sign contacts designed to halt sexually charged dancing.

Principal Kristel Barr of Truman High School in Independence said the contract, posted to the school's Web site, must be signed by students and their parents before they can attend dances, KMBC-TV, Kansas City, Mo., reported Monday.

"I have had kids say, 'Hey, this is just how we dance.' I counter that with, 'I don't consider those things being dancing as much as necessarily movement that is not school appropriate,'" Barr said. "So I say that you can choose -- my kids are smart kids, they're intelligent -- if you choose to you can think of other ways in which to dance. They do admit, for the most part, that yeah, they are smart enough to think of other ways, they would just rather maybe not."

The contract specifically forbids "freaking," "grinding" and "moshing."

The document states there will be no warnings and any students caught violating the terms of the contract will be ejected from dances.
