PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Organizers of the Portland Pirate Festival in Oregon said hundreds of buccaneers turned out for the event but they fell short of a world record.

Officials with Guinness World Records said the total count at the weekend festival came in at just over 1,700, enough to set a U.S. record but short of the world record, 6,166, set recently in Britain, The (Portland) Oregonian reported Monday.
