ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The toilets at Florida's new Amway Center were inaugurated by Orlando Magic and city officials with the help of some schoolchildren to check the plumbing.
Orlando city officials including Mayor Buddy Dyer and team officials including President Alex Martins were joined by children from Nap Ford Community School to simultaneously flush 443 of the facility's 560 toilets Wednesday to ensure the plumbing could handle the strain of a sold-out crowd, the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.
Scott Blanchard, vice president of Hunt Construction, which is overseeing construction of the Amway Center, said the simultaneous flush is standard procedure for a new arena of its size.
"We'd rather find out about a problem earlier than later," Blanchard said.
The center will open to the public for a ribbon-cutting event Oct. 1.
