BURR OAK, Mich., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A Michigan man said he killed a 34-inch alligator he discovered in a field while picking sweet corn.
Jeff Adamski of Burr Oak said he was picking corn about 7 p.m. Aug. 27 when two women who were picking corn elsewhere in the field came running and told him they had discovered an alligator, the Sturgis (Mich.) Journal reported Friday.
Adamski said he was skeptical, but the women led him right to the small reptile.
"I backed away and he darted at me," Adamski said. "I backed up faster and he darted faster."
He said he decided the alligator needed to be dealt with before it could escape his sight.
"What if you took a 5-year-old kid in to pick corn and it latched on?" he said.
Adamski said he killed the gator with a 4-foot bar from his truck and stowed the corpse in his family freezer.
The origins of the animal were unknown.
