DAEGU, South Korea, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A professor at a South Korean university said he discovered 12 books printed with movable metal type that are 100 years older than the official oldest book.

Nam Kwon-heui, a professor at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, said he found 12 books in a Seoul gallery that appear to have been printed at least 138 years prior to "Jikji," a Buddhist tome first printed with movable metal type in 1377, Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization officially certified "Jikji" in 2001 as the oldest metal-print book in the world.
