N.C. to replace typo sign

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- North Carolina transport officials said a sign typo misspelling "Independence" as "Indepednence" will be corrected at no additional charge to taxpayers.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said the sign on Interstate 277 in Charlotte was misprinted by the manufacturer and will be replaced without taxpayer dollars, WCNC-TV, Charlotte, reported Wednesday.

Officials said Tuesday they were planning a temporary fix until they obtain the replacement for the sign, which is visible on eastbound I-277 near Independence Boulevard.
