Police clerk hurt by exploding bullet

SACRAMENTO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A civilian police clerk in Sacramento, Calif., was injured Thursday when she dropped an evidence envelope and a bullet inside exploded.

The clerk was hit in the right leg by fragments from the casing, the Sacramento Bee reported. A police spokesman said the bullet was not in a weapon but was loose.

She was treated for her injuries at the University of California-Davis Medical Center and was expected to recover completely.
