Fried beer, margaritas at Texas fair

DALLAS, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Finalists for the Sixth Annual Big Tex Choice Awards at the State Fair of Texas include fried beer and deep fried frozen margaritas.

The finalists, which were announced Wednesday, also include the deep fried s'mores Pop-Tart, fried lemonade, fried chocolate, Texas fried Frito pie, Texas fried caviar and Fernie's fried club salad, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

The creations will make their debut to the public when the fair opens Sept. 24. A panel of judges will choose winners Labor Day for two categories, best taste and most creative.

Mark Zable, creator of the fried beer, said his dish features ravioli-shaped dough pockets filled with beer that pours out when bitten.

"Why drink your beer when you can eat it?" Zable said.
