SCHWYZ, Switzerland, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Warner Brothers is suing a Swiss company for copyright infringement, alleging the packaging for the firm's condoms resembles Harry Potter, a lawyer says.
Warner Brothers Entertainment Inc. of Los Angeles said the packaging used by Magic X, the Swiss manufacturer, shows a picture of a condom waving a magic wand and wearing Harry Potter-style round-rimmed glasses, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.
"The image of my client is in danger. This is clearly a reference to the film and fictional character Harry Potter. Everyone who sees the condoms automatically thinks of Harry Potter," the lawyer for Warner Brothers said.
An attorney for Magic X countered by saying, "Our product has nothing to do with Harry Potter," the British newspaper said.
The Cantonal Court in Schwyz will decide in the next few weeks whether to ban the condom packaging, the Telegraph said.
The Harry Potter series has generated an enormous amount of tie-in merchandise and the Harry Potter brand is estimated to be worth more than $23 billion, the newspaper said.
