Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
CARMICHAEL, Calif., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The owner of two zebras that ran wild in a Sacramento suburb this weekend blamed their escape on a bad dog.
David Mastagni, whose son owns a mule supplier in Carmichael, Calif., told the Sacramento (Calif.) Bee that a dog spooked the two animals Saturday evening and sent them galloping through the streets of town.
"I looked up and said, 'There's a zebra,' " said witness Adrian Reynolds. "It was charging at people."
One of the zebras was quickly coaxed into a horse trailer, but the second animal put up more of a fight in the parking lot of a Big 5 sporting goods story and wasn't secured until more than four hours later.
"One kid said he lived in Idaho and used to tame wild mustangs. He put his hand in the zebra's face," Reynolds said. "Later he got kicked."
Neither the kid from Idaho nor anyone else, including the zebra, was seriously injured.
