STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A wedding in Sweden had to be called off after the would-be groom allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill his bride-to-be, police say.
Police from the central Swedish town of Orebro say the trouble began when the 33-year-old man and his fiance, whose names were not released, got into an argument in a pub Friday night that continued at the couple's home in the village of Vintrosa, The Local reported Sunday.
The argument escalated to where the woman called the police, accusing the man of assaulting her, police said.
When officers arrived at the home, the man allegedly hit his fiance, threatening to kill her, The Local reported.
"It's the first time we've searched somebody and found two wedding rings in their pocket," police sergeant Anders Wallin said.
The man, charged with assault, allegedly issuing threats and resisting arrest, was released from police custody on Saturday afternoon, hours after the scheduled time of the wedding.
