GRAND PRAIRIE, Alberta, July 23 (UPI) -- Authorities in Canada's Alberta province said they detonated a grenade, believed to date back to World War II, found in a box of heirlooms at a trailer park.

Grand Prairie police said explosive experts from the Cold Lake Canadian Forces base were called in Thursday after Edna Cunningham found the item in a box at the County Roads RV Park and husband Rick Stanley told her it looked like it might still be live, the QMI agency reported Friday.

Police evacuated two trailers and guarded the grenade, which was left on a campsite picnic table, while waiting for explosives experts to arrive.

Cunningham said the grenade, which was detonated by the military experts, originally belonged to her grandmother's brother, who was a World War II veteran.
