LOS ANGELES, July 16 (UPI) -- County, state and city officials in Los Angeles are considering whether to continue a moratorium on rave concerts at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena.

A commission made up of government representatives from California, Los Angeles County and the city of Los Angeles are scheduled to meet Friday to discuss whether to end the ban on new contracts with rave producers, which was adopted following a 15-year-old girl's death of a suspected drug overdose at the Electric Daisy Carnival three weeks ago, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Coliseum managers declined to say how much money is made from each rave concert, but attendance at the events has risen steadily in recent years, with 133,000 people attending the 2-day Electric Daisy Carnival in 2009 and 185,000 attending the 2010 Electric Daisy Carnival.

Pat Lynch, the Coliseum's general manager, said rave concerts, which feature music that can continue for up to 12 hours with nonstop dancing, make up a "very significant piece of the annual budget." The venue has hosted about four rave events each year since 2008.
