MONTREAL, July 16 (UPI) -- Pamela Anderson flew to Montreal, Canada, for the unveiling of her new animal rights ad, but Canadian officials banned the "sexist" campaign.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said Anderson flew out to Montreal to unveil the ad campaign, which features the 43-year-old sex icon with parts of her body labeled like a butcher's diagram with the caption "All Animals Have the Same Parts," USA Today reported Friday.

However, PETA told the New York Daily News that Montreal officials rejected the ad campaign Thursday.

"It is not so much controversial, as it goes against all principles public organizations are fighting for in the everlasting battle of equality between men and women," a Montreal official told PETA in an e-mail.

PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews accused Montreal officials of "confusing 'sexy' with 'sexist.'"

"In a city that is known for its exotic dancing and for being progressive and edgy, how sad that a woman would be banned from using her own body in a political protest over the suffering of cows and chickens," Anderson said in a statement. "In some parts of the world, women are forced to cover their whole bodies with burqas -- is that next? I didn't think that Canada would be so puritanical."
