Police: Man threw tantrum over brandy

MADISON, Wis., July 9 (UPI) -- Wisconsin police said a robbery victim threw a temper tantrum in the middle of a Madison road when officers told him his brandy was being booked as evidence.

Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said the 50-year-old man decided to buy a bottle of brandy to share with two teens he was talking to Friday in James Madison Park and the teenagers then robbed him of the booze and his wallet at gunpoint, The Capital Times, Madison, reported.

DeSpain said the suspects fled but police dogs led officers to two backpacks believed to belong to the teenagers.

"The brandy was in one backpack," DeSpain said. "The victim became very upset when informed it was evidence and he wouldn't be getting it back immediately."

The spokesman said the man lay down in the road and demanded the return of his brandy.

"He was arrested later on for making false 911 calls (that were) more failed attempts at retrieving his liquor," DeSpain said.

Police: Man strapped drugs to genitals

MANATEE, Fla., July 9 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man arrested for violating his supervised release was subject to another charge when drugs fell out of his pants while he was changing.

Manatee County deputies said Jason Graham, 33, of Venice, had apparently fastened a package of prescription pills to his genitals with a rubber band and the object broke while he was changing into his jail uniform, causing the rubber band and bag to fall to the ground, the Bradenton Herald reported.

"It is apparent that Graham had this package secured around his genital area and it popped off during the changing of his pants," a supervising deputy wrote in the arrest report.

Graham, who had been arrested for violating his supervised release on a driving under the influence charge, was booked on additional charges of drug trafficking and introduction of contraband into a facility. He was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $50,750.

Police: Man tried to smuggle pot into jail

TROY, Ala., July 9 (UPI) -- Authorities in Alabama said they arrested a man who allegedly concealed marijuana in a Chinese food container and attempted to smuggle it into a jail.

The Pike County Sheriff's Office said Edward Ridley, 41, of Cordele, Ga., entered the Pike County Jail Saturday with a Styrofoam container filled with Chinese food for prisoner Vincent Thomas, the Dothan (Ala.) Eagle reported.

A jail worker searched through the rice and shrimp with a fork and discovered the bag of marijuana, the sheriff's office said.

Ridley was charged with felony promoting prison contraband, which bears a prison sentence of 1 to 10 years. He was held in lieu of $7,500 bond.

Kitten rescued after days in sewer

FINLEYVILLE, Pa., July 9 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man said Roto-Rooter workers pulled a kitten from a sewer two days after he rescued the feline's siblings.

Ron Swidorski, 59, of Finleyville, said his wife noticed a dead cat by the roadside Monday and heard cries coming from the sewer, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

Swidorski said he was able to save two of the three kittens using a fishing rod but the third feline eluded him for two days, leading a local family to call Roto-Rooter to help.

Giovanni Gulli, 35, a manager for Roto-Rooter, said workers used a motorized camera to track the kitten's movements through the sewer before deciding which pipe they needed to access.

Swidorski said he has already decided on a name for the kitten.

"How about Lucky?" he said. "Lucky's a good name."
