WEATHERBY LAKE, Mo., July 5 (UPI) -- The Missouri man who turned a lake into a "noodle" soup of swimmers Sunday says he always wanted to set an off-the-wall world record.

Pete Pierce convinced 920 people to jump into Weatherby Lake in Platte County using Styrofoam "noodle" toys to keep them afloat, falling just short of the record of 940.

"I've always said I'd like to set frivolous world records," Pierce told the Kansas City (Mo.) Star. "This fits into my goal. It's just fun."

Pierce's first noodle party occurred in 2007. The folks at Guinness World Records told him they didn't have a category for most people floating on noodles in a lake so he formed the Noodle World Authority, which acts as the sanctioning body for the record.

The authority informed the Star another stab at a record might take place in a couple of years.
