PALMERSTON NORTH, New Zealand, June 24 (UPI) -- A New Zealand man found drinking beer in his overturned car after crashing through a barrier was banned from driving for 10 months.
Investigators in Palmerston North said they approached the overturned Ford Laser, which had crashed through a barrier on Centennial Drive in Palmerston North, late June 1 and found Paul Sneddon drinking beer in the upside-down vehicle, The Manawatu Standard reported Thursday.
Sneddon, who told police he had "plenty" to drink, pleaded guilty to driving with excess breath alcohol and careless driving.
Judge Gregory Ross revoked Sneddon's driving privileges for 10 months and fined him $780.
Sneddon told authorities he had been drinking for four days straight because he had lost his job as a banker.
