NEW YORK, June 21 (UPI) -- New York State Police said a pair of vacuum salesmen are facing a criminal charge for allegedly damaging a homeowner's mattress during a demonstration.

Trooper Andy Davis said Taylor Newton, 25, and Phillip Smith, 29, are accused of damaging a homeowner's $1,300 Sealy latex foam mattress while demonstrating Kirby Co. vacuums in Richfield Springs, The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y., reported Monday.

Davis said the men waited at the home for troopers to arrive.

"They were trying to make it right," Davis said.

He said the men were charged with reckless endangerment of property and the homeowner is seeking compensation for the damaged mattress.
