KEY WEST, Fla., June 21 (UPI) -- Police in the Florida Keys said a single night included a report of a mummy, a woman biting a 6-year-old and a man claiming a marijuana brick was his wallet.
Becky Herrin, a spokeswoman for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a young couple called 911 Saturday night to report what appeared to be a "mummified" corpse on an abandoned boat off Sugarloaf Key, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Monday.
Herrin said deputies responded and discovered the "mummy" was really a mannequin. No charges were filed in the incident.
The spokeswoman said deputies were also called to a Key Largo home where a woman admitted to biting a 6-year-old on the cheek to show the girl, who had reportedly been biting others, what it feels like. Danielle Dudley, 26, was arrested and charged with child abuse.
Herrin said a car containing two men was pulled over for speeding on Cudjoe Key just before 3 a.m. Sunday and a deputy discovered Julio Abella, 26, had a suspended driver's license.
Passenger Anthony Williams, 22, slipped a black garbage bag into his pocket during the stop and said the new bulge in his pocket was his "wallet," Herrin said. Investigators determined the two men had compressed bricks of marijuana weighing an estimated 6 to 8 pounds in addition to several smaller amounts and a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Williams and Abella were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Abella was also charged with driving with a suspended license.
"These were unusual calls, but there is no oil on the beaches [from the Gulf of Mexico spill] so people should continue to visit the Keys and enjoy our quirkiness," Herrin said.
