BUFFALO, N.Y., June 17 (UPI) -- A French performance artist announced his intention to walk across a steel cable between two 23-story towers in Buffalo, N.Y.

Didier Pasquette said he plans to walk 345 feet in the air Sept. 23 between the towers of the Liberty Building as part of the "Beyond/In Western New York" exhibition, a months-long event focused on art from the area and around the world, The Buffalo News reported Thursday.

"It's a metaphorical, figurative act," John Massier, the exhibition's project director and a curator at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, said of the feat. "It's very much about inhabiting the moment. To me, this is what the wire walker exemplifies. It's the great impulse of all artists to fully inhabit the moment so acutely that you can do something that magnificent, that you can do something that sublime."

Officials said they are finalizing the liability insurance for the feat and they are still waiting on one final confirmation from the owner of the building. However, they said they are confident the stunt will go forward as planned.
