NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- Authorities said a Greyhound bus driver accused of stealing a $600,000 coach in New York told investigators he wanted to visit his girlfriend out of town.
Police said Duane Snipes, 29, gave a number of excuses for taking the brand-new bus from a New York Port Authority Bus Terminal June 9, including taking his daughter to school, but he eventually admitted he took the coach so he could visit his girlfriend in Mount Vernon, N.Y., the New York Post reported Wednesday.
The bus was found abandoned in Mount Vernon Wednesday and Snipes was arrested Thursday. Police said security cameras captured Snipes taking the bus from the terminal and disabling its security.
Snipes pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and was ordered held on $5,000 bail.
Greyhound officials said Snipes has been fired.
