Dual intersection's long waits vex drivers

WEST MILFORD, N.J., June 14 (UPI) -- A New Jersey double intersection with red lights taking 2 1/2 minutes each is frustrating motorists with long waits.

The double intersection, at Clinton Road and Route 23 in West Milford, gives motorists only 7 to 20 seconds to get from the first light to the second without risking another 2 1/2 minute wait, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Monday.

"You get caught over here," motorist Charles Bolcar said, pointing to one light. "Then you come through, and then (the next light) turns red. It doesn't give you enough time to get through."

The intersection was dubbed "America's longest traffic light" by The New York Times in 2001 and the Star-Ledger said in 2000 it was the second-longest -- after a light in Delaware.
