ATLANTA, May 24 (UPI) -- Officials at Zoo Atlanta said Kuchi, a 25-year-old western lowland gorilla, gave birth to her third offspring with Taz, a 20-year-old silverback.

Zookeepers said the baby, which officials did not identify by sex, was born early Sunday and marks the third birth for the gorilla couple following the birth of fraternal twins, Kali and Kazi, in November 2005, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

"Kuchi has demonstrated over the years that she is a truly remarkable mother," said Dr. Dwight Lawson, senior vice president at the zoo. "We're excited about seeing her demonstrate those qualities with another new baby, and particularly about seeing Kali and Kazi interact with their new sibling."
