COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 4 (UPI) -- Authorities in Ohio said a bank robber fleeing from the scene of his crime paused to give $200 to a window shopping mother and daughter.

Investigators said the robber walked into the Huntington Bank branch in Columbus' Short North neighborhood at about 1:30 p.m. Monday and showed a gun in his waistband to a teller, the Columbus Dispatch reported Tuesday.

FBI Special Agent Harry Trombitas said the man fled the bank with an unspecified amount of cash and came across the mother and daughter while fleeing the scene.

"The robber comes out of the bank, runs between them and gives them each $100," Trombitas said.

"We won't know until we catch him what he was thinking," he said. "One interesting thing: Apparently sometime prior to the robber handing them the money, a homeless man came up to these two, and the mother gave the man a small amount of money."

"We don't know if he (the robber) saw" the exchange, the FBI agent said.

He said the pair went to the bank to see if the money was real and turned the cash over to police upon discovering the facility had been robbed.
